Trash Enclosures

Looking to store your trash cans outside of your garage and remain in compliance with the bylaws? Here are some quick tips to get you on the right path! Keep in mind that all modifications, including trash enclosure installation, must be approved by the HOA.

ENFORCEMENT WILL BEGIN OCTOBER, 1, 2024

What kind of trash enclosure can I install?

Requirements for trash enclosures installed in Arbor Farms:

  • Color: complements your home & the neighborhood style (white, gray, black, brown are safe bets)
  • Materials: wood, wood alternative (like Trex), and/or metal
  • Hedges: also permitted, but must be large enough at installation to hide containers and maintained/trimmed after
  • Dimensions: cannot exceed 84”W x 48”H x 40”D
  • Covering on at least two sides to keep out of public eye, but not fully enclosed: no small sheds or Rubbermaid/resin prefab units permitted

Where can I install a trash enclosure?

Trash enclosures can be installed along the side or behind your house and cannot come past the front of your house.

What other factors should I consider?

  • The location’s impact on your neighbor’s use of their own property
  • Access by animals
  • Maintenance required to keep the enclosure in good condition
  • All trash & recycling must fit inside rollers. Excess should be stored in garage and not stacked on top of/next to enclosures

How do I get approval?

For trash enclosures, you will need approval from the HOA Board of Directors. Please include color & material information, as well as a drawing (preferably using your plot plan) of the location, along with your approval form.

You MUST have an approved modification request BEFORE starting Construction!

* Enclosures are only required for those wanting to store their trash & recycling containers outside. If you prefer to store them inside your garage, this notice does not apply to you.
