Looking to add a fence to your home? Here are some quick tips to get you on the right path! Keep in mind that all modifications, including fence installation, must be approved.
What Fence can I Install?
Fences in Arbor Farms must be:
- Color: Black
- Materials: Metal Chain link or Wrought Iron Style
- Dimensions: no more than 6′ tall (additional limits set by the township)
- Invisible/underground fences are also permitted

Where Can I Install a Fence?
Fences can be installed behind your house and cannot come past the back of your house. For houses on a corner lot, an exception may be made with approval.
What other factors should I consider?
- The location of the fence may require approval of your neighbor on either side, or behind you.
- If you propose to build a fence on a Washtenaw Country drain easement (look on MapWashtenaw), you will need a WCRC permit as well.
