Looking to add a deck or patio to your home? Here are some quick tips to get you on the right path! Keep in mind that all modifications, including deck and patio installation, must be approved by the Homeowners Association.

What Kind of Deck Can I Install?

Decks installed in Arbor Farms must be:

  • Color: Must complicate the color-scheme of your home
  • Materials: Composit decking (suck as Trex or TimberTech) or Pressure Treated Lumber

What Kind of Patio Can I Install?

Patios installed in Arbor Farms must be:

  • Pavers, brick, flagstone or concrete
  • Colors that complement the color of your home.

Where Can I Install a Deck or Patio?

Decks and patios can be installed behind your house and cannot come past the back of your house or beyond the side of your house.

What other factors should I consider?

  • Most decks and many paitos will require permits from Pittsfield Township (Township Deck FAQ)
  • You cannot build a deck or patio on a Washtenaw Country drain easement (look on MapWashtenaw).
  • These rules also apply if installing a pad expressly for a hot tub or similar device.
